Breakaways – Origin of the Premier League

The Premier League, commonly referred to simply as the EPL, is perhaps the biggest level of the English professional football league structure. It operates on a rigid system of relegated and promoted teams with the English Premier League having special status, including the right to host matches at the English national stadium, England’s national Stadium, known as West Ham United’s home ground. Other EPL teams can be found in the top leagues in various countries. The most successful club in this competition is Manchester United, who is leading the overall standings with 55 points.

Like the NFL in the United States and soccer in Brazil, the EPL has several different breakaway leagues. Most notably, the League One in England comprises teams from the lower league who have been invited to participate in the premier league. The League Two in the EPL is a lower division that enjoys an independent existence and is not linked to any international team. The third, fourth and fifth division in the EPL are known as the Third Coast Eagles, the St. Bees and the Wrexham Flyers, who play in the Championship divisions. Each of these levels has their own designated jerseys and are the reason why there are so many different teams playing in the premier league. The matches take place at the grounds of these competing clubs and some of them even manage to travel outside the United Kingdom to take part in the matches.

The benefits of being involved in the EPL include the fact that the breakaway league allows English clubs to play against teams from other nations, who would not normally be able to afford the necessary sporting activities for their players. This enables the English clubs to attract new members and potential new fans. Another benefit is that the matches do not have to be based within the United Kingdom, as was the case during the original start of the Premier League when matches were mainly based within the country. This was changed in May of 1994 when the broadcasting rights for the match were sold to a company based in the United States. Because the international television rights for matches increased matches now take place anywhere in the world.
